Physical Selfcare

Physical Selfcare

You need to take care of your body if you want it to run efficiently. Keep in mind that there's a strong connection between your body and your mind. When you're caring for your body, you'll think and feel better too.

Physical self-care includes how you're fuelling your body, how much sleep you're getting, how much physical activity you are doing, and how well you're caring for your physical needs.

Physical Selfcare Examples

Self-care activities can range from physical activities such as exercising and eating healthy, to mental activities such as reading a book or practicing mindfulness, to spiritual or social activities such as praying or catching lunch with a friend. The important thing to remember about self-care is that it is about listening to what your mind and body need and positively planning, actioning and incorporating those said needs into your lifestyle.

Exercising Daily
Exercise produces stress-relieving hormones and improves overall wellbeing. Be sure to drink water before, during and afterwards.

Maintaining A Healthy Diet

By updating our eating habits to include more unprocessed foods like whole grains, vegetables and fresh fruit is key to a healthy body. Increasing our water intake will assist with detoxification and processing of toxins out of our body. This type of diet can help lower risk for chronic diseases, and help with your mood and energy levels.

Getting A Good Nights Sleep
We need between seven and nine hours of sleep. Avoiding using smartphones, computers, and TV before bed can help you have a more restful sleep. Be sure to drink water before bedtime and when waking up.

Reducing Alcohol Intake
Alcohol often does not ease stress, it can actually be worse for a person’s mental health. Be aware of over-consumption of alcohol frivolously and be sure to maintain detoxification and cleansing of your liver and body.

Use Relaxation Techniques
Things like deep breathing, meditation and muscle relaxation exercises are quick and easy ways to reduce stress. Find the best, simple, quick and effective relaxation technique for yourself & add it to your daily or weekly rituals to improve your physical selfcare.

Managing Conflicts
When in conflict or when contentious situations arise, using problem solving strategies and avoiding battling scenarios with clarity, confidence and conciseness can help you resolve conflicts and give you the space you need to think clearly about how to respond. Spend the time that you need, in order to process clearly and wholesomely in order to make the best decision for your future.

Making Time For Friends & Family
Setting aside time for friends and family helps avoid feeling disconnected to others. Engaging in social time & focusing on your hobbies, interests or exploring with or without them tends to have a positive effect on your mental health. Your social connectedness can help prevent you from becoming depressed as well as being adventurous & explorative can help you feel more alive and purposeful.

Brushing Teeth, Bathing & Showering Twice Daily
Ensure that you find the time to cleanse your mouth and body daily before you start the day and before you end the day. This is important as it gives you alone time to think, process and conclude freely. You start the day planning and doing and then you end the day reviewing your day accomplishments or things you could have done better. Its pragmatic, raises self-awareness and is good practice for personal and general hygiene.
