Re-evaluating your Wardrobe

Wardrobe 1.jpg

Do you need to look at your wardrobe and think to yourself “I have nothing to wear today! “ Perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate your wardrobe?

Our bodies, faces and lifestyles change over the decades. However, our fashion choices don’t always keep up.

Some believe that there are a set of rules to go by. We say, forget the rules! We just need a few guidelines to great style and answers to questions about how to get it.

Fight the frumpy looking outfits and go for a smart looking outfit for daytime wear and night-time. Look energetic, youthful, and appropriate for every occasion.

Invest in classics. They never go out of style and always provide a confident look.

Try to mix and match as much as possible. Make sure your clothes still fit properly. A shirt that has become too tight or a pair of jeans that has stretched out will look worse than you think.

Let’s start off with bottoms. A comfortable pair of pants is always best. Take a look through your cupboard and see what do you currently have? Jeans, cargo pants, sweatpants etc. First off, sweatpants are not for everyone. If you are not sure whether you still look good in your sweats, perhaps it’s time to let them go. A good fitting pair of jeans can go a long way.  Smart casual for going out for a lunch, paired with a blazer and pretty scarf, or dress it down with a simple t-shirt and some sandals. Chinos are comfortable and can be upgraded to evening wear with a silk blouse and sandals with a great heel. A good skirt can be elegant and timeless. Try to keep those that are on the knee or slightly below as they can be used for work or going out. Not everyone looks good in a skirt that hangs to the floor. They can be especially hazardous for tripping if too long. A good, fitted pencil skirt is always elegant and one of the biggest winners.

A classic black dress can be paired with blazers or light weight cardigans, so it is good to have one for all seasons. Add boots, coats, and hats for different looks. Play around and have some fun.

T-shirts are great to wear during summer. If you are looking to appear slimmer, always go for a V-neck as it will actually make you look taller. T-shirts look good with a scarf too. Make sure your button up blouses fit properly, and you have various colours to mix and match with your pants and skirts. One good classic black blazer will go a long way and can be worn with jeans or smart cotton pants.

Your shoes should be clean and not damaged. Throw out any worn-out shoes at once as they can make your outfit look tired and frumpy. It’s great to keep colour choices to the basics of black, brown, or tan as these go with most items, but don’t ever be afraid to try out new, vibrant colours, especially in the summer months.

Accessories can make or break an outfit. A big necklace or earrings can draw the focus to your neck, and away from the areas that you’d rather not be noticed. Come summer or winter, scarves are good accessories too, not just to keep the cold out.

Make sure your handbags are clean and that there are no threads hanging down from where it might have snagged. Trying a scarf to the handles of your handbag is also a classy detail to add.

If you like lots of colour, splash out on what you love. Never hold back on your personality. Your clothes are often an expression of who you are, so use the time to dress up and shine!
