Top 5 Places to Explore in Cornwall This Summer

Cornwall is a destination that offers something for everyone regardless of whether they’re a fan of the arts or a fan of adrenaline-fueled sports.

Cornwall is famous for its beaches, but more and more people are scratching the surface and unveiling a wealth of things to do and see, making it an ideal holiday destination for those looking for an affordable break that still offers plenty to do.

The following is just an overview of some of the top places to visit in Cornwall during the summer months.

Port Issac

Fishing in Cornwall has long been one of the main commodities, and Port Issac allows you to view fisherman bringing in the catch of their day.

This historic harbour is not only a treat for the eyes, but also has other claims to fame, namely as the setting of ITV drama “Doc Martin” starring Martin Clunes.

Tiny little streets are awash with slate-fronted Cornish hose and are ideal for those that like an element of exploration with their holiday.

The Merry Maidens of Boleigh

Although some will be visiting Cornwall to absorb the picturesque views, others will be visiting to learn more about the many famous landmarks Cornwall has to offer.

The Merry Maidens of Boleigh is one of Cornwall’s best-known and few true stone circles and is made up of 19 laid stones.

The circle is said to represent a group of young girls who were turned to stone for dancing on the Sabbath.

Of course, this may be far-fetched to some, but this doesn’t make the Merry Maidens of Boleigh any less awe-inspiring.

Watergate Bay

If you more of an adrenaline junkie, then don’t worry, Cornwall still has you covered.

Many will already be familiar with the several beaches that Cornwall offers, but not everyone will be aware that some of these beaches offer the best locating for catching waves, and Watergate Bay is no exception.

Regardless of whether you’re new to surfing or a seasoned professional, Watergate Bay is one of the main retreats in Cornwall for those looking to hone their skills on the waves.

Don’t worry if you’re looking to relax, as the beach is big enough for everyone, and those who aren’t keen on surfing still get a lot of enjoyment from watching others tone their skill.

St Ives

Some people may assume that it’s only possible to sustain a tropical theme abroad, but St Ives can be one of the best places to be when the sun is shining.

As well as a scenic village setting, there is a vast selection of attractions nearby including a boat trip to Seal Island and the iconic Tate Gallery.

Many also argue that St Ives offers some of the best beaches in Cornwall, with a vast majority of them being within walking distance.

St Austell

St Austell is an old market town in Cornwall that truly offers something for everyone.

As well as the scenic hilly areas, those visiting St Austell can also visit the Eden Project, a botanical project that uses a former clay pit as its foundation.

If you’re a music fan then why not check the Eden Sessions, a series of summer concerts showcasing some of the biggest names in the music industry.

These are the top 5 places to visit in Cornwall, but once you’ve visited, there’s very little reason as to why you can’t build your own tailored experience filled with sights and activities that suit the family and the budget.
